Dear Calene,
I would like to thank everyone at Data Retrieval Services for helping us restore from a system crash. Due to the nature of the data that we deal with, we perform a regular nightly backup on a 4mm DAT and also a partial hourly backup to a streaming tape. The backups run under a standard Unix cpio command. Somehow the front of the nightly backup tape was overwritten with the I surly backup data.
We were sure that the critical data existed on the 4mm tape. but using cpio on our DAT drive, we were unable to read passed the END OF TAPE mark created by the hourly backup. Data Retrieval Services got past the EOT mark and pulled off all remaining files
It is discomforting to know that you may be doing all that you can to protect critical data through backups and still have a disaster. However, it is comforting to know that skilled professionals with the experience in the field of data recovery are there to help.
Thanks again.
